One Power Plant Way stands as the primary driver behind re-energizing the heart of Northeastern's campus—a new central hub designed to transform campus life. The building will house the new Northeastern University School of Architecture, alongside flexible gallery spaces for CAMD (College of Arts, Media, and Design) students and local artists. A vibrant café at the corner of Forsyth Street and Power Plant Way will serve as a gathering point, welcoming both students and community residents, thus opening the university to its surrounding neighborhood.
Massive precast concrete groin vaults serve as the building's primary structural system. These components, formed osite and assembled on location, create vast, inspiring open spaces that naturally draw people in. This architectural approach fills the space previously occupied by Northeastern's steam plant, connecting the areas between the surrounding Nightingale Hall and Holmes Hall, and enhancing campus connectivity. Visitors approaching from Centennial Common will be greeted by a new, highly accessible public plaza. A pavilion featuring water elements and green space will create a serene, inviting atmosphere.
With this significant addition to Northeastern's campus, we anticipate renewed growth for both the university and the surrounding Boston neighborhoods.
